Principles of organizing information
Speaker

Lisa Maria Marquis

Poor organization afflicts every corner of the web, from weak navigation structures to unclear labels to ineffective search filters. But thoughtless categorical choices don’t just harm findability—they can also harm users. The ways we choose to organize and structure digital content reflect our values, both individually and societally, for better or for worse. In this talk, we’ll discuss principles of organizing information, real-world examples of hostile (and helpful!) user experiences, and frameworks for making more powerful and progressive categorical decisions with your content.
