Design & Content 2017 is here (almost)! We're over the moon to welcome you to our THIRD year. This email will cover some details to help you get ready. Make sure to save this somewhere special.
Code of Conduct:
We want Design & Content to be a safe, welcoming place where attendees can focus on enjoying the talks and spending time together. Please review our Code of Conduct as you prep for the conference to see what we require of attendees, speakers and staff.
Transportation to downtown Vancouver:
A taxi from YVR airport will run about $40. There is also the SkyTrain/Canada Line, which is $9.00 and will get you within a 2-minute walk to the conference hotel (Canada Line to City Centre/Granville Station - 2 zones, 11 stops, 25 minutes.)
Social Media and Hashtag:
If you’re tweeting or taking pictures, please use the #dcc17 hashtag. Most of our Q&A will be taking questions for the presentations using this hashtag or our Slack channel.
We’ll provide lunch on Tuesday and you’re on your own for Monday’s workshop and Wednesday. There will be complimentary coffee, tea, water each morning at the conference venue and added snacks during the morning and afternoon breaks. Beverages are welcome in the Goldcorp cinema.
There are lots of places to eat in the area that are quick and affordable. Dave Shea wrote us a blog post featuring some of his faves.
If you haven't looked over the conference schedule, now's a good time. In addition to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, your badge gives you access to the conference party on Tuesday night at Science World.
Monday, July 17th. Workshops and Style & Class Opening Event
Workshops and pre-registration will happen at the Microsoft Canada Excellence Centre at 725 Granville Street, Suite 700, Vancouver.
If you’re attending a workshop, you can pick up your registration package on Monday morning. Check-in starts at 8:30am, with the workshops starting promptly at 9am.
Pre-registration—1:00 - 3:30pm
Pre-registration will happen from 1:00 - 3:30pm at Microsoft while workshops are in session. The pre-reg desk will be located on 7th floor lobby of Microsoft Office (same location as the workshops) where you can check-in and pick up your badge. We recommend you pre-register while lines are shorter.
Style & Class: Teaching Bots to Talk - Design & Content Conference Extra Event. Doors open at 6:00pm. Event begins at 7:00pm
A fun, thought-provoking session around the new reality of personal agents, bots and artificial intelligence permeating our digital lives. The event will take place at the Rio Theatre located at 1660 E Broadway, Vancouver, just three train stops from the conference hotel. There is no additional cost for this event, but you must RVSP on Meetup to secure your place. Huge thanks to Microsoft for supporting our opening event!
Tuesday, July 18th - Conference Talks and Party
Main Conference Talks
The conference talks will take place at the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, located at 149 W Hastings St, Vancouver in Vancouver’s historic Gastown (look for the giant W in the sky). Ushers, volunteers, and signage will be plentiful. Please ask if you need help finding your way.
The registration desk at the main conference venue (SFU Goldcorp) will be open from 8:15am - 5:00pm.
Conference Party at SCIENCE WORLD!
Your badge gives you access to the conference party on Tuesday night at Science World.
Tuesday, July 18, 6:30pm-9:30pm, Science World Design & Content Conference Party at Science World 1455 Quebec St, Vancouver (Skytrain station: Main Street/Science World)
At 6:30pm we’ll gather on the second floor Eureka! Gallery for music, food, and fun. We’ll also get to see the sun set over False Creek and the city. There will be a cash bar and enough appetizers to fill your hungry dinner bellies.
Wednesday, July 19th - Day 2 of Conference Talks
